Grandchildren
The seven grandchildren of Alice Jo and Marshall Lichtman, celebrating Marshall’s 85 birthday at the Ojai Valley Inn in June 2019. From left to right are: Alex Reading who started Brandeis University on a merit scholarship on August 26th , 2020. He is also one of 18 entering freshman accepted into The Howard Hughes Medical Institute special research program at Brandeis. To his left is Sebastian Uriarte. After receiving his B.S., he obtained his Master’s degree in International Trade Management. In parallel, he trained to be a deck officer and is currently a deck officer on merchant ships of various types. Eschewing going into business at this time, he prefers staffing research vessel studying features of the oceans and guiding merchant ship around the world, delivering various products to Asia, South America, Africa, and Europe. He is also licensed to teach English to non-English speakers in other countries. He left Brazil in March 2020, ahead of closing of the border as a result of covid-19, after a several months gig teaching youngsters in the Favela in Buenos Aires. He gets around! Next is Sam Evans, after graduating Cornell University, he taught in a grade school in an underserved community in Los Angeles. He then served as a medical scribe in 2018. In August 2019, Sam entered medical school at USC. Sam’s brother Jesse Evans, to his left, took a leave of absence from USC to further develop his flourishing business producing music. His success has been dramatic, producing songs for top artists, and being much in demand for his talent. Marshall is to his left. Alice Jo is next. Alice Jo is a retired computer software developer and was honored last year at the Rochester Institute of Technology, where she received her advanced degree in computer sciences, with the 2019 Distinguished Alumna of the Year Award. During her career, she developed advanced customized computer programs for many Fortune 500 companies in the U.S. and their subsidiaries in Latin America. She has worked to enhance the entry of women into the discipline of computer sciences, a field lagging behind other scientific disciplines in this regard. Squeezed in the back to her left is Ignacio Uriarte. Ignacio is a singer-song-writer working in Berlin, under contract to SONY Music. The moniker “Lions Head” identifies him and his music. He has released many songs, an album, tours in concert, and was one of three judges on the German version of The Voice. He has a second album being released this year (2020) among which songs is “Alien”, a big hit and a recognition of the plight of immigrants. Sarah Reading is entering her freshman year in high school. An equestrian and talented artist, Sarah was an honor student in grade school. Last, but definitely not least, Andres Uriarte graduated from George Washington School of Law and, having passed the New York State Bar examination, is an attorney in Washington, DC, where he works in the Office of the United States Trade Representative. His office deals with complex trade interactions, internationally.

Sarah Reading graduated high school and is now a freshman at Mt. Holyoke majoring in psychology. She is on the equestrian team and received a second place and a first place ribbon in her first two shows. Alex Reading has graduated Brandies Summa Cum Laude and has begun his Ph.D. studies in biological engineering at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). He was awarded two prizes at Brandeis for his scholarship in the sciences, where his research led to a paper on his work. Samuel Evans is in his second year of a four-year residency in emergency medicine in Kings County Hospital in Brooklyn, NY. Jesse Evans continues in his successful career as a music producer in Atlanta, Georgia, a national center of activity in his field of interest. Andres Uriarte moved to Los Angeles, passed the California bar, and is practicing law in a firm in that city. Sebastian Uriarte has reached the rank of second officer in his career and at this moment is on the crew of a research vessel, sponsored by Columbia University, sailing from Lithuania to the coast of West Africa to undertake oceanographic studies. Ignacio Uriarte has continued his music-making career in Berlin and is identified as “Iggy” in his original songs, albums and concert tours. In parallel, he has begun studies of data analytics that he plans to apply to the music industry.
